Chris Hughes –
I like John’s industrial landscape photos. The subject is so common – we have all seen things like this – but John creates an interesting abstract image with them which allows us to see it for the first time. The image stands on its own as an abstract image even if we do not know what it is. I like the blue strip at the top with the metal duct reflection — it looks like someone stuck it there with photoshop but I know that John works from negatives so this is exactly how he found the image. He also balances the fading natural light at the end of the day with the street lights that have just been turned on. This always creates unusual colors that the human eye may not even see. The camera always captures interesting colors at dusk.
